The Australian Equine Institute (AEI) was established in 2010, as a division of the Intercept Group Pty Ltd. At AEI our aim is to help you gain extensive knowledge and skills that will give you newfound confidence and improve your equine skills and education. A Certificate III in Horse Care does just that, providing the foundational knowledge that any student needs to adequately contribute to an equine workplace. This knowledge is equally important for all horse owners of any age, wanting to be able to take care of their horse with the most up to date knowledge. A Certificate III in Horse Care covers everything from WHS and horse first aid to biosecurity and how to safely load and unload a horse.

Our course is delivered online via our unique study portal and can be completed in the comfort of your own home or at school from anywhere in Australia. We do not offer face to face courses as this course is designed to be completed online and at home with your own horse or a loan horse.
The course is made up of 18 Units
Each unit has both theory and practical tasks with the practical tasks involve completing a series of tasks including handling, transporting, lunging, and administering First Aid for horses.

This qualification is self-paced. Students are allocated up to 24 months for completion of this course. We do allow self-paced completion of the course in a shorter timeframe if desired
Each unit contains theory and practical components to be completed. The benefit of our course is that all aspects of the course can be completed anywhere in Australia.
To complete the practical tasks within this course students must have access to a horse/s.
This course is designed for students to be able to complete from anywhere in Australia. To achieve this we use a variety of methods to conduct your practical assessments. These assessment methods include:
- Third party observations
- Videos submitted to AEI for assessment
- Level one riding instructor assessing practical tasks
- All students will be required to undergo a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) quiz.
- Be 15 years or over at the time of entry into the course
- Students must be physically able to undertake the assessments
- Access to 3 calm, consistent and obedient horses
- Students will need to have access to a Level one equine coach and/or have a suitable supervisor over the age of 18 who can maintain safety while video footage of the tasks is taken.
